Sunday Services

Sunday services are the heart of the USG experience. Worship for us includes celebrating life and feeling the charge of the spirit. Here are descriptions of upcoming services.

Together we experience personal and spiritual growth, moral challenge and intellectual stimulation. We are a part of a non-creedal religious movement.  In our devotional life we draw on various world religious traditions, philosophy and the sciences. We present ideas to inspire and   enlighten.  We engage in spiritual practices which enable us to widen our connections with community and the wider world.

The order of service can vary significantly. A typical Sunday service consists of lighting of the chalice, lighting candles for hopes and sorrows, readings, music and a thoughtful sermon. We often have a story for children, which allows us all to reflect on important life issues.

Services are held each Sunday at 11:00 AM (10:30 AM in July and August) and generally last 65-75 minutes. Our minister, Kent Matthies, preaches two or three times a month. Once or twice a month sermons are given by lay members or guest ministers. Two times a year, our choir presents an all-music service. Once a year, the church school children put on a service.
