Share the Plate

USG gives away the offering one Sunday per month.  The program was named “Share the Plate” and involves education, advocacy and financial contributions.  Members of USG nominate organizations that meet the following criteria:

  • non-profit
  • no political affiliation
  • dedicated to serving social justice needs including education, healthcare, ending racism, reducing poverty, etc.
  • serving the Northwest Philadelphia area or associated with UUA/UUSC

A task force selects the organizations to receive the offering and educates the congregation about the organization’s service to the community.  On the Sunday that the offering is taken, a representative from the receiving organization speaks to the congregation about the work they do.

Recipients to date have included Community Church UU (New Orleans) and First Church New Orleans; Neighborhood Interfaith Movement; Habitat for Humanity/Philadelphia; Lingelbach School; Need in Deed and Unitarian Universalist House

If you’d like to nominate an organization to receive the offering, please download and complete this nomination form.
