At USG we see religious education as a lifelong process. Our Adult Spiritual Development program offers courses that provide deeper knowledge and understanding of our UU heritage and our personal beliefs, and courses that provide a broader perspective on spiritual growth based on a wide range of human knowledge and experience. We are always looking for people who want to lead courses or have ideas for our curriculum.

Each semester, we offer "core" courses, which have specifically UU subject matter, and "electives," which take a more eclectic approach to spiritual development. Some programs can be attended on a drop-in basis; others require a commitment for the semester. In addition to Adult Spiritual Development, there are many other adult enrichment opportunities (Activity Groups)at USG.

Ongoing Adult Religious Exploration Classes

Buddhist Meditation

Meets monthly before the regular Sunday service for the purpose of supporting the meditation and Buddhist practice of the participants. A secondary goal is to be a gate to Buddhism and meditation for Unitarian Universalists and to UU for Buddhists. Jerry Lindauer, (215)635-6775

Interweave/Welcoming Congregation

A UU membership organization dedicated to the spiritual, political, and social well-being of UUs who are confronting oppression as lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender persons and their heterosexual allies. It celebrates the culture and lives of its members. Contact: Barbara McDowell Dowdall, 215-843-4475.

Small Group Ministry

This fall, we will start small group sessions to provide members and friends with a structure that fosters collective dedication to personal reflection, spiritual enlightenment, and community service. Known by several names -- Small Group Ministries, Covenant Groups or Chalice Circles -- the groups of 8 to 12 help bring people together on their individual spiritual journeys and facilitate significant and lasting relationships as our church grows.

Introduction to UUism

Periodically, our minister, Kent Matthies, offers a one or two session basic introduction to Unitarian Universalism.

Earth-Honoring Traditions

With chanting, drumming, dancing, poetry and ritual, we hold intergenerational celebrations honoring the cycles of nature through the year (such as the winter solstice) and our connection to our sacred world. We draw on the traditions of many cultures and times to foster healing relationships with our mother earth and all her children.

Articulating Your Faith
Building Your Own Theology
Writing Your Spiritual Autobiography

These are three different but related courses that are offered from time to time.

Retreats

Our most recent was a Men's Retreat at the beautiful Murray Grove Center in New Jersey. It was a day-and-a-half of: Informal worship, Meditation and Yoga, discussion about men's issues, recreation and fun.
